A Simi Valley teen-ager was seriously injured Monday after a large piece of carpet was blown into her path, causing her to lose control of her car on the Simi Valley Freeway.

The girl, 16, was taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where she was undergoing surgery Monday night. Her name and condition were unavailable, but the California Highway Patrol said she suffered major injuries.

The girl was driving westbound on the Simi Valley Freeway east of 1st Street in Simi Valley about 1:40 p.m. when the carpet flew into her path, according to CHP reports.
