From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Fire erupted in the historic Fulton Fish Market just days after Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani announced a crackdown on corruption and organized crime there. More than 200 firefighters battled the four-alarm blaze, which sent flames shooting more than 30 feet into the air and caused part of the building’s roof to collapse. One firefighter suffered a minor injury in the blaze, which appeared to have started on the second floor of the three-story, metal-sided, wood-frame building that dates back to 1901, officials said.
