FULLERTON : Hide Publications About Sex, City Says

Share

Public newspaper and magazine racks containing “harmful matter” now must be equipped with blinders in an effort to keep the material under cover, the City Council ruled this week.

“Harmful matter,” city officials said, includes any sex-oriented publication.

Several residents have urged the city to require blinder racks for the sale of sexually explicit materials. One citizen who spoke before the council said blinders would help deter children from buying adult magazines.

The council, which voted unanimously to require the blinder racks, had inquired about mandating adult supervision of vending racks containing sexually explicit material or restricting access to the racks. The city attorney said such action is not allowed, however, under current state law.
