A Low-Fat Kinda Guy

So what does the country’s most flamboyant fat-fighter eat?

“I’m not a food gourmet,” confesses Phil Sokolof, founder of the National Heart Savers Assn. “I live alone and do my own cooking with a microwave and can opener.

“My refrigerator is full of fruits and vegetables,” he says. “I buy salad already made and no-fat dressing. I love frozen dinners and there are a lot now with no fat. I try all the new ones. There’s even a Healthy Choice hot dog with only one gram of fat and chili with no fat. The problem with those is that most of them have a lot of sodium.

“I still eat a steak once a month or so, and an occasional hamburger. I can do that because I have such a low-fat diet. There are days when I probably don’t eat three or four grams of fat.”
