MOORPARK : Students Tapped for Florida Competition

Share

The future looks bright for a team from Moorpark’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America.

The Moorpark High School team, which has a history of success in both state and national business-knowledge contests, is heading into this year’s national competition after placing fifth in the California meet last weekend, said Joyce Keefer, the team’s adviser.

The contest tests students’ business knowledge in such areas as parliamentary procedure and computer applications. Twenty of the team’s 35 students placed within the top five of categories in which they competed, Keefer said.

“Moorpark’s really making a name for itself with these competitions,” she said.

At the end of June, six of the team’s members hope to travel to Florida to represent the school in the national competition. The problem, said Keefer, is that the young capitalists lack the capital to make the trip.

Keefer hopes that attention from the team’s high finish in California will help them raise the $700 per student they need to go to Florida.

Those hoping to attend the national competition are Steven Song, who was elected president of the California Future Business Leaders of America; Irwin Yson, state secretary; Chao-Ping Lei, executive vice president, and competitors Nishant Narayan, who placed first in the business calculations competition; Nazroop Mitter, who placed second in business math, and Veronica Brooks, second in business procedures.
