Seeking Clean Vehicles: Beginning with a session Tuesday in El Monte, the California Air Resources Board will hold a series of public workshops to review its controversial low-emissions vehicle plan. Opponents have objected to various parts of the plan in the five years since its adoption, especially the mandate to require zero-emission vehicles--almost certain to be electric cars--beginning in 1998. The first workshop will gather information and opinions about the plan’s treatment of hybrid electric vehicles, which have drive systems that use both electric and non-electric power. The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Annex IV of the El Monte offices of the ARB’s Mobile Source Division, 9530 Telstar Ave. For more information, call (916) 322-2990 or 818-575-6858.
