U.S. Textile Quota Cut Protested: The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation said the U.S. Textile Products Agreement Executive Committee had, from May 4, unilaterally slashed China’s textile quota, state TV reported. The ministry said the U.S. side used as its excuse illegal trans-shipments of Chinese exports through Hong Kong and that it imposed the cut without sufficient proof or consultation. The move breaks the U.S.-China textile agreement and if it is not reversed, China will react, the ministry said.
