Six community college players from Orange County were named to the National Softball Coaches’ All-American first team.

The players are Rancho Santiago’s Christina Mazurie (infield), who was named Orange Empire Conference player of the year and Renee Taylor (outfield); Cindy Escobedo (infield) and Stephanie Mendoza (utility) of Fullerton and Christa Saindon (infield) and Jenny Lopez (outfield) of Cypress. Fullerton’s Kristy Hensel (outfield) was named to the second team.

Former Hornet coach Margo Davis, who now coaches at Allan Hancock in Santa Maria, was named national coach of the year.

Dan Bergmann, a Fullerton College pitcher and outfielder, has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of the Pacific, Fullerton Coach Nick Fuscardo announced.

Bergmann, a right-hander, posted a 2-3 record with four saves and a 2.10 earned-run average last season. Bergmann pitched 34 1/3 innings, striking out 24 and walking 20. His ERA was the best on the Fullerton squad.

On offense, Bergmann batted .397 on the season and was among the top 10 in the Orange Empire Conference. He had 58 hits, 38 runs scored, 19 runs batted in and 12 stolen bases.
