San Juan Capistrano’s Decorative Arts Study Center...

San Juan Capistrano’s Decorative Arts Study Center has found a new home and is planning to reopen on July 5 at Birtcher Plaza, an office complex at 31878 Camino Capistrano, No. 104, San Juan Capistrano. The center has been forced to move out of the historic Libros Y Artes home it has occupied for eight years because the cash-strapped City Council voted in April to stop making payments on the site, owned by San Juan Capistrano resident Gephard Durenberger. In its new, 1,500-square-foot quarters, about half the size of its original digs, the center will offer public access to its 2,000-volume research library and public lectures and workshops. The space is too small for exhibitions, said director Bea McArthur. The center expects to remain at its new site for at least 18 months, McArthur said, and hopes to find a larger venue and reinstate exhibitions if funding allows. The center will be closed for the move after June 23. The new location will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
