New B-2 Order to Save Some Northrop Jobs: Employment on the bomber program will drop to 6,300 by the end of 1996 from the current level of 8,800, but new B-2 orders being considered in Congress could sharply offset the coming reductions, Northrop said. A spokesman said the company could not estimate how many jobs would be saved by the new orders. The estimate that B-2 employment would drop to 6,300 is exactly 200 jobs more than the company projected in 1993, when it announced it would close its Pico Rivera plant.
