PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AFC : Patriots Hurting at Linebacker
New England linebacker Andre Bowden, who had been playing with the starting unit in camp, has been lost for the season after suffering a broken leg.
“It’s too bad,” Coach Bill Parcells said. “Andre had done a terrific job to get ready in the off-season. I think it was going to pay dividends for him.”
Last week, another linebacker, Todd Collins, who started 19 games the past two seasons, announced his retirement at age 25 because of injuries.
Collins’ retirement and Bowden’s injury leave second-year player Marty Moore and Ted Johnson, the Patriots’ second-round draft choice this year, as contenders to start alongside Vincent Brown.
