FAA Suspends MarkAir’s Operating License: The upstart airline that serves 13 major U.S. metropolitan areas was grounded by the Federal Aviation Administration because of safety concerns. The FAA alleged that the carrier, which is operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, has an insufficient staff to ensure that its fleet of six Boeing 737s are adequately maintained. The FAA said several of the airline’s key maintenance positions were vacant and that it hired improperly qualified workers. The airline was forced to suspend its 15 daily flights. It advised passengers to make reservations with other carriers, which it said were not accepting MarkAir tickets. “We anticipate this to be only a temporary suspension, but unfortunately we do not have dates for resumption” of scheduled flight service, a recording on the airline’s reservation line said.
