“This appointment underscores the importance of aggressive marketing as a way to strengthen The Times’ relationship with loyal readers and attract new readers as well,” Schlosberg said. “Mike’s talents in the consumer marketing field will ensure that we not only retain our significant reader base, but grow it for the future in an increasingly competitive media environment.”

Rose, 35, joined Times Mirror Co., The Times’ parent company, in 1990 as director of strategic planning. In 1992, he was named vice president of new business development for Times Mirror Cable Television, where he was responsible for the advertising sales business as well as strategic analysis, marketing plans and the launches of new businesses. In July, 1994, he moved to Times Mirror Multimedia, a consumer multimedia software company that was formed by Times Mirror last year. Times Mirror Multimedia was discontinued last month as part of the company’s strategic decision to refocus resources on its core newspaper, professional information and magazine businesses.
