Obituaries : * Marie O. Whitford; 31-Year County Resident
Marie O. Whitford, a longtime Ventura County resident, died Monday at her home in Ojai. She was 85.
Mrs. Whitford, who was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Dayton, Wash., came to California in 1942 and was a 31-year Ventura County resident.
She had worked on an assembly line in a Santa Monica airplane factory during World War II and had been a nurse’s aide at Sawtelle Veterans Hospital. She then worked at various jobs, retiring in 1961 as a housekeeper.
Whitford was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Ojai, where she taught Sunday school to kindergartners and first-graders. She also sent money to Korean and Indian children she sponsored.
She is survived by her husband, Russel E. Whitford of Ojai; a son, John Peters of Oxnard; three daughters, Shirley Holdaway of Modesto, Juanita Mulkey of Ventura and Arlene Murillo of Ojai; 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai. Private services will be held later.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.
