PacifiCare’s Florida Subsidiary Names President, Chief Executive

* Mitch Goodstein has been named president and chief executive of PacifiCare of Florida, a subsidiary of Cypress-based PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. He was also appointed regional vice president of PacifiCare Health Systems’ Southeast region. Goodstein will be responsible for the operations of PacifiCare of Florida’s 65,000-member health plan as well as the development of new market opportunities in Florida and the Southeastern United States. He will also oversee the introduction of Secure Horizons, the company’s Medicare health plan, in south and central Florida. Before joining PacifiCare, Goodstein was president and chief executive of HMO California, a start-up managed-care company in Los Angeles, and principal for Tillinghast, a management consultant firm, where he managed the company’s Irvine health-care unit and led its managed-care consulting practice in the Western region.

* Teri L. Pierce has been appointed vice president and chief financial officer of First American Trust Co., a Newport Beach provider of personal, employee benefit and investment trust services. She joined the company in 1991 as a financial consultant and was later named controller. Before that, she was with the Warmington Co. for seven years, holding the positions of vice president, controller and financial analyst.

* Jim Hossack has been selected vice president of product planning for Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley. He will be involved in new product development, market segment strategies, pricing and product research. Hossack was previously vice president of Mark III Industries in Ocala, Fla. He has held senior level product planning positions at Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Corp. and Mazda Motor of America.

* Patricia M. Howe has been appointed vice president and general counsel at Subscriber Computing Inc. in Laguna Hills. She joined the company last year as director of human resources. Before that, Howe was assistant vice president and senior corporate counsel for Comdisco Inc. in Illinois.

* Kent C. Fossum has been named vice president of specialty and surplus lines market relations for Armstrong/Robitaille Insurance Services Inc. in Tustin. He has been an account executive and consultant for property and casualty insurance for specialty accounts since 1985.

* Meghan Crowley and Kelley Schultz have joined the Costa Mesa public relations agency of Paine & Associates as managers. Crowley was previously an account executive at Giles Communications in New York. Schultz was formerly special-events coordinator for the Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross. In addition, Patricia Spiro has been appointed controller, serving as senior financial officer for the agency. Before joining the company, she was a senior accountant at Ernst & Young and a staff accountant at Price Waterhouse.

* Robert C. Bruns has joined the Newport Beach office of McCarthy, a commercial and industrial builder, as pre-construction director. He has 11 years of construction experience as chief estimator, project manager, project engineer and estimator, and has worked on such projects as the University of California, Davis, Medical Center; Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center of Mission Viejo, and the Cerritos Community Arts Center. In addition, Raymond D. LaTour has been named MIS engineer. His duties include computer repair and software support. He was formerly a technical support coordinator at Morrow Micro Computer Service.
