NEWPORT BEACH : City Looks North to Replace Clerk
The assistant city clerk in Manhattan Beach has been hired to succeed Wanda Raggio, who is retiring in January after 15 years as Newport Beach’s city clerk.
Raggio, 56, announced her retirement last summer, saying she wants to spend more time with her family.
LaVonne Harkless, 42, will begin work Jan. 15.
The city clerk is responsible for overseeing maintenance of all official city records and documents and updating the municipal code.
The clerk is also responsible for conducting municipal elections.
Harkless, who lives in Redondo Beach, said she and her family plan to eventually move to Newport Beach.
The city hired an executive search firm, Sacramento-based Ralph Andersen & Associates, to find Raggio’s successor and plans to use the same team to find a replacement for Assistant City Manager Ken Delino, who has announced his resignation effective in late January.
