PREP ROUNDUP : Day Ties Her Record in University Victory Over Poway

Lyz Day tied her school record with seven three-pointers and University rallied to defeat Poway, 59-56, in the third-place game of the Vista girls’ basketball tournament Monday at Vista High School.

Poway (6-3), ranked eighth in San Diego Section Division I, led by three points at the end of three quarters, but University’s Taylor Stokes scored six of her 10 points early in the fourth quarter to put the Trojans (5-3) on top.

In the Henderson (Nev.) Basic Holiday Prep Classic girls’ basketball tournament:

Brea Olinda 48, Palmdale 36--Marissa Bradley scored 18 points and Jennifer Saari had 11 points and six assists for fourth-ranked Brea Olinda (8-1), which led by 10 at the half.

Woodbridge 59, Bakersfield North 47--Cathy Joens scored 16 points and Erin Stovall had 13 points in a first-round victory for Woodbridge, the top-ranked team in Orange County.

In the North Las Vegas Cheyenne girls’ basketball tournament:

Westminster 65, Henderson (Nev.) Green Valley 22--Tanzenika Holmes scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Lan Erikson had 14 points and six assists for Westminster (7-1).

In the Palm Springs girls’ basketball tournament:

Bolsa Grande 42, Palm Springs 35--Jana James scored 12 points to help Bolsa Grande (5-3) advance to the championship game tonight against Redlands. Earlier in the day, James scored 22 points as the Matadors defeated San Bernardino Cajon, 58-36.

In the Bullhead City (Ariz.) boys’ basketball tournament:

Irvine 70, Yuma (Ariz.) Kofa 57--Amir Rahimi scored 22 points to lead Irvine (5-6) in a first-round game. Irvine plays Palmdale in the quarterfinals.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Servite 66, Los Angeles Loyola 56--Lance Day had 25 points and 12 rebounds for Servite (7-2). Peter Martinelli had 11 assists and five points and Sean Rawson scored 15.

In the South Torrance boys’ soccer tournament:

Edison 3, Torrance 0--Todd Marcus scored twice for Edison (2-4-3), which scored three first-half goals. Brandon Rillera scored the other goal for the Chargers, who play Simi Valley at 10:30 a.m. today.

Santa Ana Valley 2, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 2--Luis Mejia scored his second and third goals of the day for Santa Ana Valley (6-2-1), which defeated Los Angeles Loyola, 2-1, in an earlier game.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Anaheim 2, Pico Rivera El Rancho 2--Ramon Soto’s lead gave Anaheim (2-1-4) a 2-1 lead in the second half, but El Rancho tied score with 10 minutes remaining.

Cypress 1, Savanna 0--Mike Meza scored on cross from Steve Ponce in the 88th minute for Cypress (4-2-1).

Irvine 1, Trabuco Hills 1--Midway through the second half, Scott Martino scored the tying goal for Trabuco Hills (1-3-3). Greg Koutsourus scored for Irvine (2-3-3) in the first half.
