BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Kennedy Falls in Tournament Final, 83-80
San Pham sank a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining and Eagle Rock held off Kennedy, 83-80, in the championship game of the Bell-Jeff tournament Saturday night.
Mark Caguioa scored 21 points and Quincy Johnson added 18 for the Eagles (8-2).
Paul McFarlane led Kennedy (6-3) with 26 points and Michael Calloway added 21.
Eagle Rock led the entire game, scoring 17 fast-break baskets and forcing 21 turnovers. The Eagles led, 48-37, at halftime. Kennedy made the game close by outscoring Eagle Rock, 31-19, in the fourth quarter.
In other Bell-Jeff tournament games:
Grant 50, Culver City 39--Donald Patterson scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds as the Lancers (4-6) took third place.
Robert Lozano added 12 points for Grant, which outscored Culver City, 18-9, in the fourth quarter.
Leuzinger 91, Granada Hills 87--Ernest Quinley scored 21 points and Jason Denis added 18 for the Highlanders (3-8), who were outscored, 41-22, in the fourth quarter of the fifth-place game.
Jerry Paul had 47 points, eight assists and seven steals for Leuzinger (3-5).
Monroe 67, Poly 64--Marion Rosottan scored 26 points, eight in overtime, as the Vikings (5-1) won in the consolation final.
Eric Owens scored 21 points for the Parrots (4-6) and John Gillard added 16, including a three-point basket from half court at the buzzer that sent the game into overtime.
