Whether in Spanish, Vietnamese or Korean, the phrases mean the same special thing: “your home.”

And at its New American exhibit at the upcoming Times’ Home Buyers and Sellers Fair, the Federal National Mortgage Assn. (Fannie Mae) will offer free guides to buying a home, including work sheets in seven languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Russian and Haitian Creole.

The seventh annual fair, the largest consumer-education event of its type in the United States, will be held Saturday, March 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Fannie Mae will distribute free copies of the “New Americans Guide: How to Become a Citizen, How to Become a Homeowner,” a brochure aimed at helping recent immigrants achieve the “American Dream.” Included is information on loans with low down payments, flexible mortgage qualifying and correcting credit problems.

Fannie Mae, the nation’s largest source of funds for home mortgages, buys loans from lenders throughout the country.

The fair also will feature a full day of question-and-answer seminars on home buying, financing, credit and tax issues as well as more than 50 exhibitors, including lenders, Realtors, home builders, the IRS, FHA, VA and Department of Real Estate.
