Construction Forces Farmers Market Move
The Friday afternoon farmers market and crafts fair is moving a few blocks away next month to make way for a downtown condominium and retail project.
Construction is to begin later this year on a development at Main and Orange Avenue, where the fair now operates.
The Planning Commission last week approved moving the market to a two-block area on Main between Walnut and Olive avenues. The move will be effective April 12.
Its operating hours will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Main Street between Orange and Walnut will be closed to motorists from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Barricading Main Street for the fair might cause heavier traffic on 3rd and 5th streets, officials said, but there was no opposition to the proposal.
Merchants say the fair will increase pedestrian traffic, a benefit to all downtown businesses.
