Nation IN BRIEF : MICHIGAN : Kevorkian Describes Use of Lethal Gas
Dr. Jack Kevorkian said he placed a black canister of carbon monoxide gas next to Merian Frederick on Oct. 22, 1993, and turned the valve on before the terminally ill woman removed a clip and started inhaling the deadly gas. “I might have put it right next to the couch. But the gas tank was supplied,” Kevorkian said under cross-examination during his third day on the stand. The retired pathologist is on trial in Pontiac for violating a now-expired state ban on assisting suicides. Prosecutors must prove that Kevorkian supplied the means by which a person committed suicide.
