$1 Million in Computer Software Donated to L.A. County Schools
In a move to bring the technologically laggard Los Angeles County schools up to speed, software developer Davidson & Associates announced Wednesday that it was donating $1 million worth of educational software to the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
The software gift is the largest technology donation the county office has received since setting up the Technology for Learning initiative in June to bring schools from the bottom 10% of a national ranking of school computer accessibility to the top.
Although acquiring the software is a big step in the technology coalition’s five-year plan, many schools lack the computers to run the software. County officials are hoping the contribution will prompt donations of hardware.
The donation by the Torrance-based software developer will make software licenses available to 1,000 of the county’s 1,678 schools, a value of about $1,000 per school.
