Medical Practitioner Has License Revoked

The state Respiratory Care Board has revoked the license of a Ventura respiratory care practitioner who has five criminal convictions the agency said were substantially related to her qualifications and duties.

Keran Sue Montgomery, also known as Karen Sue Montgomery, was convicted of driving under the influence, grand theft auto, possession of a controlled substance and other criminal acts, the board said.

“The Respiratory Care Board’s responsibility is to protect the interests of California consumers by disciplining practitioners whose actions violate California’s respiratory care laws,” said Cathleen McCoy, executive officer of the board, which is a division of the state Department of Consumer Affairs.

“Montgomery’s criminal activity left the board no choice but to revoke her license,” McCoy said. Montgomery also was ordered to pay more than $6,800 for the cost of investigating and prosecuting her case, McCoy said.

Licensed respiratory care practitioners treat diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis, asthma and pneumonia.
