The New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings worked out together in Mankato, Minn., and although it provided a welcome respite to the monotony of training camp for some, it proved a bit unsettling to Saint Coach Jim Mora.

At one point, Mora jumped into the Viking defensive huddle and berated them for stretching the rules.

“You want to scrimmage, we’ll scrimmage,” Mora shouted. “Just let me know. This is supposed to be a practice.”

Former Chicago Bears defensive end Richard Dent worked out for the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday and the team immediately began contract negotiations. Coach Lindy Infante said Dent’s workout wasn’t extensive, but he saw enough to know he’d like to have the 35-year-old defensive end on his team.

Philadelphia fullbacks Kevin Turner and Fred McCrary, running back Charlie Garner and defensive backs Troy Vincent, Brian Dawkins and Jerome Henderson missed practice at Lehigh University because of hamstring injuries. Center Raleigh McKenzie has a bad ankle, wide receiver Irving Fryar has a pulled groin and first-round draft pick Jermane Mayberry has pneumonia. To fill in for Turner and McCrary, the Eagles signed fullback Frank Harvey, who played two games for Arizona in 1994 and spent training camp with Cleveland in 1995. Rookie free agent tight end Renaldo Graham was released to make room on the roster. . . . Atlanta rookie defensive tackle Shannon Brown, a third-round pick out of Alabama and the Falcons’ first choice, is out for the season after tearing ligaments and cartilage in his knee during the Falcons’ second day of practice. . . . New York Giants defensive tackle Keith Hamilton is nursing a sore left Achilles tendon, and backup backup tackle Stacey Dillard is getting work in his spot, as are starting left end Robert Harris and free agent end Bernard Holsey.
