Dixon to Coach El Toro Boys’ Basketball

Todd Dixon has been named the El Toro boys’ basketball coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Dixon was an assistant at Southern California College two years and has been teaching at Santa Margarita the past seven. He will teach math at El Toro. It is his first varsity coaching job.

He replaces Dave Shoemaker, 24-29 during two years as coach, who resigned two months ago to take a job at Tulare Union High in the San Joaquin Valley.

Gary Almquist was named wrestling coach at Corona del Mar, the school announced.

Almquist, who coached previously at Woodbridge in a walk-on capacity, will teach health.

He replaces Paul Serio, who resigned at the end of the season to spend more time with his family, athletic director Jerry Jelnick said.
