From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A former high-ranking midshipman accused of sexually assaulting four female classmates has been ordered expelled from the U.S. Naval Academy on the lesser charge of sexual misconduct. Scott T. Ward, 21, of Grand Rapids, Mich., was found guilty of having consensual sex in the dormitory, violating the strict rules of the military school where sexual activity on campus is banned. He earlier was cleared of more serious assault charges. Ward, who was commander of half of the midshipmen brigade, was arrested and placed in a military jail in April after he was accused of sexually assaulting the women in separate incidents. Ward denied the charges.
