STERN STUFF

Thank you for John Clark’s lengthy article about Howard Stern’s upcoming movie (“Call Him Mr. Nice Guy,” Sept. 1). No doubt, though, your editor left out an important part of director Betty Thomas’ quote.

Clark reports that “when her friends try to give her a hard time about working with Stern, she tells them, ‘You’re me a couple of months ago.’ ”

I’m certain the full quote should have been “You’re me a couple of months ago . . . before I was paid an enormous sum to betray my own gender”!

Nice going, Betty.

The article exposed a side of the shock jock that is rarely portrayed, exploring Stern’s gentle and polite off-air persona.

Unfortunately, too many people fail to realize that what Stern says on the air is social satire with the intent to entertain. He is playing a character on the radio just like an actor assumes a role. Hopefully, his upcoming film will further clue us in about the real Howard Stern.

So Howard Stern is making a movie of his life. I can only ask: WHO CARES?

Howard Stern continues not to assume the responsibility for glorifying on the radio rude and insulting behavior toward disabled people like stutterers, women and most racial minorities. And I’ve personally been the target of insults as a stutterer from Howard Stern fans in cyberspace for many years.

While he can tell the difference between the radio and real life, many of his fans can’t make that distinction. Like Porky Pig cartoons, Stern is teaching millions to demean stutterers and others. That is why Stern will never be “Mr. Nice Guy” to me.
