Crews Battle Fire in Angeles Forest
A brush fire that blackened 600 acres in Angeles National Forest remained out of control Saturday, a U.S. Forest Service spokesman.
No serious injuries or property damage was reported, and the fire was expected to be contained by this morning, Forest Service spokesman Bruce Quintelier said.
About 400 firefighters from the Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies were battling the blaze in the area off San Francisquito Canyon Road, about 12 miles northeast of Saugus.
The cause of the fire, which broke out Saturday afternoon, is still under investigation.
The season’s worst brush fire in Southern California, which was extinguished last week, burned more than 20,000 acres only a few miles to the west.
