Coronado’s Adrian Taufaasau, whose injury halted the Coronado-Costa Mesa football game Friday night, remained at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana on Saturday.

Taufaasau’s condition, however, was not disclosed to reporters. Coronado Athletic Director Sandy Ferguson said Taufaasau’s family requested no information be released. Neither school nor hospital officials would comment on Taufaasau’s status.

A paramedic who asked not to be named, told the Daily Pilot that Taufaasau was taken into surgery in the hospital’s trauma unit, where a neurosurgeon was on duty.

Coronado Coach Bud Mayfield, quoted in Saturday’s Daily Pilot, confirmed that Taufaasau had a history of short seizures, but it was unknown if his prior medical condition was related to Saturday’s incident.

Taufaasau, a senior quarterback for Coronado, collapsed after getting tackled in the fourth quarter of his team’s 36-3 loss. He remained unconscious on the field for 25 minutes before being removed by paramedics. The game was ended by officials at that point, with 9 minutes 39 seconds remaining.
