Lakers Are Near Deal With Scott

Share

Talks between the Lakers and Byron Scott that have been on-going for weeks may result in the free-agent guard signing early this week and returning to the team he helped win three NBA championships.

Scott, 35, shot 40.1% last season with the Vancouver Grizzlies and has said he would like to play in Los Angeles. He and the Lakers have been discussing the possibility, although the only negotiations taking place were about how much of the $247,500 contract he’d sign would be guaranteed.

Training camp starts Friday and the Lakers have a need for an outside shooter. Scott, who spent the first 10 seasons of his pro career with the team, should provide a positive locker room presence if nothing else, but there is also no guarantee he would make the team if he returns.
