* Update: The Monarchs registered their third consecutive shutout with a 47-0 victory over Hawthorne on Friday. Hawthorne had 74 yards total offense and crossed the 50-yard line only once.

2. LOYOLA, 3-0 (3)

* Next: Saturday vs. Serra at Glendale High.

* Update: Senior defensive back John Hilvert has four interceptions, including one he returned 76 yards for a touchdown in a 35-6 victory over Saugus. The Cubs are averaging 40 points.

3. LA PUENTE BISHOP AMAT, 3-0 (2)

* Next: Friday vs. Ayala at Cal State Fullerton.

* Update: For the second week in a row, the Lancers had to rally from a two-touchdown deficit. They scored 28 second-half points to beat La Palma Kennedy, 35-28.

4. MISSION VIEJO CAPISTRANO VALLEY, 3-0 (4)

* Next: Saturday vs. Atascadero.

* Update: Malaefou MacKenzie rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns and had a 51-yard touchdown catch as the Cougars beat Foothill, 41-0. Capistrano Valley has outscored opponents, 117-21.

* Update: The Dons are averaging 51 points after a 37-0 victory over Compton Centennial. They have given up only one touchdown.

* Update: Running back Art Gipson had his best outing of the season, rushing for 136 yards and two touchdowns in five carries as the Steelers beat Bloomington, 45-0.

* Update: The run-oriented Panthers passed the ball a season-high eight times in a 42-21 victory over Mira Costa. They fared better on the ground, rushing for 310 yards.

* Update: Senior receiver Kenyon Rambo had second-half touchdown receptions of 22 and 26 yards in a 28-19 come-from-behind victory over Muir.

* Next: Thursday vs. Western at Veterans Stadium.

* Update: Quarterback Sean Stein returned after sitting out a week because of back spasms and completed 23 of 32 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in a 45-22 victory over Loara.

* Update: Tony Walker ran 54 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to lead the Antelopes to a 28-21 victory over Sylmar. He finished with 72 yards.

* Update: In a battle of Orange County teams, the Friars hung on for a 38-27 victory over Santa Margarita. Greg Cicero passed for 266 yards and a touchdown for Servite.

* Update: After a heart-breaking loss to Bishop Amat the previous week, the Terriers rebounded with a 51-7 victory over Cajon.

* Update: Running back Eric Ayers scored five first-half touchdowns as the Braves beat Marina, 38-32. Ayers scored on runs of three, three and 55 yards and on catches of 26 and 17 yards.

* Update: The Toreadors opened a 28-0 lead on their way to a 42-6 victory over Dorsey, the defending City Section Division 4-A champion.

* Update: Despite missing eight players because of flu, the Falcons had little trouble in a 34-16 victory over Rialto. Making his first start at running back, Mitch Miller had 116 yards and two touchdowns for Rubidoux.

* Update: Cornerback Bret Young batted away a two-point conversion pass with 43 seconds remaining, preserving the Warriors’ 26-24 upset of Hart.

17. THOUSAND OAKS, 2-0-1 (14)

* Next: Friday at Channel Islands.

* Update: A week after upsetting Hart, the Lancers had to settle for an 18-18 tie with Chaminade. Thousand Oaks’ Ryan Tardif was stopped a foot short of the goal line on fourth down with 2:45 remaining.

* Update: The Pirates were called for 133 yards in penalties in a 34-0 victory over University. Their defense was a key, forcing seven turnovers.

* Update: Joel Eckenrod rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns, including one of 65 yards, in the Cougars’ 40-7 victory over Colton.
