Lois Armstrong, 71, Los Angeles bureau chief and national correspondent for People magazine. The veteran journalist earned a master’s degree at Columbia University and spent eight years in Paris as a freelance writer. She next moved to Los Angeles as a correspondent with Time magazine. One of her articles, under the byline of Lois Dickert, was the basis of the 1963 movie “Ladybug, Ladybug.” Armstrong joined People at its inception in 1974, and during her tenure wrote many cover stories on such celebrities as John Travolta, Jane Fonda, Sylvester Stallone, Carol Burnett and Nick Nolte.
