Urohealth Systems Inc.: The Newport Beach manufacturer of medical products posted a second quarter net loss of $27.7 million, or $1.80 a share, which included a write-off of purchased research and development totaling $25.5 million and a $4-million restructuring charge. That compares with a net loss of $3.3 million, or 29 cents a share, for the comparable quarter last year. Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 grew 57% to $21.2 million from $13.5 million.

For the first half, the company recorded a loss of $29.5 million, or $2.05 a share, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $6.2 million, or 54 cents a share. Sales rose 44% to $38.1 million from $26.5 million.
