Groups Will Discuss 2 Ballot Propositions

Two local organizations will host a breakfast meeting Thursday to discuss the impact of a pair of statewide ballot propositions on Ventura County’s economy.

The educational forum, organized by the Ventura County Economic Development Assn. and the Assn. of Water Agencies, will look at the impact of propositions 204 and 218.

The long-term effect of Proposition 204, a $995-million water bond measure, on the county’s water reliability will be discussed by Duane Georgeson, deputy general manager of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Michael Saliba, president of the Ventura County Taxpayers Assn., will present arguments in support of Proposition 208, a measure that would require voter approval for tax increases.

Meanwhile, Wayne Lemieux, an attorney from Lemieux & O’Neil, will focus on how the measure will affect funding for water districts.

For many years, the Economic Development Assn. has been a strong advocate of water delivery systems and is supporting Proposition 204, said Nancy Williams, the association’s executive director. But it opposes Proposition 218 “because it is bad legislation,” Williams added.

The meeting will be held at the Thousand Oaks Inn, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., at 7:30 a.m.

Tickets are $15 for VCEDA and AWA members and $20 for nonmembers.
