Sanchez’s Husband Enters Plea in Sign Case
The husband of Democrat Loretta Sanchez, the apparent victor in the 46th Congressional District race, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to four misdemeanor charges of tearing down campaign signs belonging to his wife’s opponent, Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove).
Stephen Brixey III admitted last month that he tore down two Dornan signs in the heat of the campaign. In a statement, Brixey said he did it “out of sheer frustration over the mean-spirited personal attacks” on his wife.
The congressman’s son, Mark Dornan, said he caught Brixey in the act of tearing down signs on an Anaheim street corner. The younger Dornan, who was in Municipal Court in Fullerton on Tuesday, made a citizen’s arrest and summoned police, who cited Brixey for vandalism of private property.
Brixey was not in court and entered the plea through his attorney, James Riddet. He was charged with malicious mischief, petty theft, receiving stolen property and trespassing. A pretrial hearing on the charges was set for Dec. 3.
