Man Held in Bank Heist Is Suspected in 8 O.C. Robberies
The FBI has arrested a man believed to be responsible for 15 recent bank robberies in Southern California, including eight in Orange County.
FBI agents from Santa Ana arrested Frank “Rocky” Martinez, a 33-year-old Downey resident, late Monday in connection with the Dec. 10 robbery of a San Pedro bank.
Joseph T. White, special agent with the FBI, said officials believe Martinez is the “Don’t Be a Hero” bandit, so named because he uttered the signature phrase when confronting tellers.
Martinez also is believed responsible for bank robberies in Huntington Beach, Fullerton and Anaheim, though charges in those cases and others are still pending, officials said.
