Excaliber Event Draws Big Field
The 32-team Excaliber Tournament begins today at Foothill High. The competition will be excellent, featuring 21 teams that qualified for Southern Section girls’ soccer playoffs last season, nine league champions and seven of the top eight teams in the Southern Section Division I rankings.
Some of the county’s top participants include: Mission Viejo and Los Alamitos, which shared the Southern Section Division I championship last season, and El Modena, which won the Division II title last season. Capistrano Valley is the tournament’s top-seeded team.
Three-time defending champion Marina will participate and faces a tough, first-round game against perennial power Simi Valley at 9:30 a.m.
The tournament continues on Friday and the final will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
