Brush With Division I Doesn’t Rub Reynolds the Wrong Way

Southern California College’s latest game against an NCAA Division I men’s basketball team ended like the first 22--with a loss--but SCC Coach Bill Reynolds isn’t unhappy about it.

Reynolds said the Vanguards played well during their 98-81 loss to San Diego State Saturday. “We don’t typically feel great about a loss,” he said, “but in this case I felt our kids played about as good as they could considering the circumstances.”

Reynolds had worried that San Diego State would dominate the Vanguards with its athleticism, but SCC hung in there.

“We thought we played pretty well,” Reynolds said. “The final score might not reflect that but we were surprisingly competitive given what I had seen on videotape.

“Our kids showed a great deal of poise handling the press and were able to compete with them for most of the game.”

Reynolds was especially pleased with the play of Terence Wilborn, who had season highs in scoring (22 points) and rebounds (six), and Marlon Watson, who had four points, eight rebounds and five assists.

SCC (8-3) next plays Taylor (Ind.) at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
