Clyde Ethlyn Lang, a 40-year resident of Ventura County, died Tuesday in an Oxnard care facility after a lengthy illness. She was 81.

Lang was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Gore, Okla.

“I used to be a big-sister baby sitter,” said Lang’s sister, Ruth Chase, 86, of Ventura. Chase moved to Ventura early on, and her sister made several visits before making the move from Tulsa, Okla.

“One time she came out and she decided to stay,” Chase said. That was in 1956. Lang took an apartment on Main Street near Lincoln Elementary School and stayed in Ventura for good, Chase said.

She took a job as a sales clerk with Kaysers Nutrition Center, in those days located at Main and Chestnut streets.

Lang worked there until the early 1970s and was with the company when the shop moved from downtown to the Buenaventura Mall, according to Chase.

In addition to Chase, Lang is survived by her brother, William Bilbo of Camarillo; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura. Private family services will be held at the funeral home.
