Man Killed by Police After Clubbing Officers
El Monte police shot and killed a man who allegedly clubbed a pair of officers responding to a family dispute early Saturday, authorities said. Juan Ramirez, 35, was pronounced dead at County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles after the 1 a.m. shooting, said Deputy Angie Prewett, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Prewett said Ramirez emerged from the Tyler Avenue home in El Monte and struck one of the officers on the head, knocking him to the ground, using a homemade billy club. The second officer fended off blows but pulled his weapon when Ramirez kept advancing, Prewett said. The officer fired numerous times, hitting Ramirez in the upper body, she said.
