Opportunities for Volunteering
The Valley Mayors’ Fund for the Homeless, 13619 Moorpark St., Suite E, Sherman Oaks, made up of the elected and honorary mayors of the San Fernando Valley, needs volunteers to help in its fund-raising efforts. The group provides Help Cards that are distributed to the homeless by police, chambers of commerce and other agencies, explaining where services are available to assist them in getting off the street. Kids Kaps With Love, a group that meets weekly at the West Valley Jewish Community Center, needs money and supplies to make hats for hospitalized children who have lost their hair from AIDS or cancer treatment. For more information, call Helen Salkin at (818) 774-1109.
Los Angeles Community Action Network, a volunteer membership organization that began in 1983, helps other organizations with their fund-raising events. Members receive a bimonthly newsletter with about 80 to 100 listings of groups that need volunteer help. For more information, call (310) 215-1137.
