Colleen Turnbull scored 11 of her team-high 21 points in a third-quarter rally as San Clemente defeated Edison, 54-52, in the quarterfinals of the Division I-A girls’ basketball playoffs. The Tritons had trailed by eight at the half.

The Chargers kept it close, and with seconds left on the clock, Edison’s Shauna Steward was fouled on a three-point attempt and went to the line with Edison down by four, 54-50. Steward sunk the first two and then intentionally missed the third shot, but Edison (18-9) was unable to get off a shot as the clock ran out.

With under 30 seconds remaining, Taryn Commins scored to put San Clemente (20-8) up by five at 52-47. Steward then pulled Edison back to within two, hitting a three-pointer, but with time running out Edison fouled Kirsten Quade who sank both free throws clinching the victory and advancing San Clemente to the quarterfinals to face Mater Dei.
