California Commercial Bankshares: The Newport Beach parent company of National Bank of Southern California reported that net income for the first quarter doubled to $938,000, or 30 cents a share, from $468,000, or 16 cents a share, for the 1996 first quarter. Total assets rose 6% to $356.1 million from $334.5 million.
