Church to Host Free Health Fair Saturday

Share

A health fair offering a variety of free screenings, examinations and information will be held Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Sepulveda.

The fair, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is sponsored by the church, the Latin American Civic Assn. and nurses from the Pacoima Health Center, which is operated by the county health department.

“We’ve never done a health fair in this part of the Valley. There are very few clinics in the area. It’s really an underserved population,” said Alicia Magbanua, a public health nurse at the Pacoima Health Center.

Among the free services to be offered at the health fair are immunizations for children, blood pressure and blood sugar testing, tuberculosis testing and dental exams, organizers said. Information also will be available about substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health, nutrition and performing breast self-examinations. Representatives from several community organizations will be on hand to answer questions about health and safety.

The United Methodist Church of Sepulveda is at 15435 Rayen St., in North Hills.
