Westwood Mall
* A proposal to convert Westwood Village into a vast shopping mall with 4,700 more movie seats than it already has--that’s 10 existing complexes of theaters all within 10 blocks of each other--is not only wrongheaded and disproportionate, it would block off a major street and add congestion to the already seriously clogged Wilshire-Westwood corridor.
Why such a plan? It would not bolster the existing businesses or produce the parking facilities they desperately cry out for, but would do a single emphatic thing: put money into the pockets of a private developer, Ira Smedra.
Anyone who supports the Smedra plan is not considering the general good of the community.
