Little League Loudspeaker
Re “Homeowners Shut Down Little League PA System,” June 18.
We whine about our loss of community and traditional American virtues. We blame the liberal media. We scapegoat immigrants. We tar metro Los Angeles as the great urban Satan.
But after reading the article about Encino homeowners shutting down the local Little League’s PA system, it strikes me that suburban homeowners are themselves to blame. They’ve been huddled in their backyards and cars and shopping malls so long that they’ve lost sight that healthy communities have well-used public spaces, like parks, and vibrant recreational programs, like Little League. A little noise comes with the territory.
