Chronology of a Death Spree
According to authorities, these slaying are linked to Andrew Phillip Cunanan:
APRIL 27
Cunanan left a message for Jeffrey Trail, 28, a gas company manager in Minneapolis, asking Trail to meet him at the apartment of architect David Madson. The three had met when Trail, a former Navy officer, was stationed in San Diego.

APRIL 29
The body of Trail, Cunanan’s first alleged victim, was found in Madson’s apartment, rolled up in a rug. He had been bludgeoned with a claw hammer, found nearby.

MAY 3
The body of Madson, 33, was found by fishermen near a lake about 30 miles north of Minneapolis. He was shot in the back of the head.

MAY 4
Lee Miglin, 72, a millionaire real estate developer from Chicago, found dead by his wife in their garage. Police speculate Cunanan met Miglin by chance. He was tortured, his throat slashed with a saw, chest stabbed with pruning shears. Madson’s red Jeep was found nearby and Miglin’s Lexus was missing.

MAY 9
The body of William Reese, 45, a cemetery caretaker, is discovered at Finn’s Point National Cemetery in Pennsville, New Jersey. He had been shot. Miglin’s 1994 Lexus was found nearby and Reese’s Chevy pickup truck was missing.

JULY 15
Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace shot twice in the head on the steps of his mansion in Miami Beach. Reese’s pickup truck found nearby.
The Gun: .40-caliber semiautomatic. Versace, Reese and Madson were killed with this model Smith & Wesson, the same type found at the suicide site.
