Consumer Portfolio Services Inc.: The Irvine company, which purchases, sells and services retail installment sales contracts from car dealers, reported that net income for the third quarter rose 26% to $4.8 million, or 31 cents a share, from $3.8 million, or 26 cents a share, for the same period in the prior year. Revenue increased 54% to $21.3 million from $13.8 million. Net income for the nine-month period grew 30% to $13.3 million, or 86 cents a share, from $10.2 million, or 69 cents a share, for the first three quarters of 1996. Revenue was up 54% to $55.7 million from $36.2 million.
