Parliament Vows to Work With Yeltsin

Russia’s contentious parliament sealed a truce with President Boris N. Yeltsin, formally withdrawing a no-confidence motion in his government and pledging to cooperate on drafting new policies. The promised collaboration stands in marked contrast to the weeks of sparring that preceded it. Under the new detente, the Yeltsin administration and parliament will form joint commissions to find compromises on divisive issues, including land ownership, housing reform and energy prices. Communist leader Gennady A. Zyuganov warned that if the new cooperation is unsuccessful, his party reserves the right to propose another no-confidence motion.
