1995 Domaine Clavel “La Copa Santa,” Co^teaux du Languedoc (About $15)

A luscious Rho^ne-style wine from France’s up-and-coming Languedoc region and an incredible bargain for such a beautiful example of 100% Syrah. Soft and mouth-filling, with overtones of smoke and wild aromatic herbs, it may not be in the same league as Guigal’s “La Mouline,” but it’s a fraction of the price. And with a butterflied leg of lamb or a braised veal shank, it’s delicious.
